Digital Dentistry refers to the use of dental technologies or devices to carry out dental procedures rather than using mechanical or electrical tools. The use of digital dentistry can make carrying out dental procedures more efficient than using mechanical tools. Few high-tech labs will 3D print their models or produce restorations without a model. Those labs will be using digital dental technologies and most likely will use CAD/CAM materials when producing restorations.

3D Imaging is one of the most significant tools for orthodontists to evaluate and record size and form of craniofacial structures. Orthodontists regularly use 2-dimensional (2D) static imaging procedures, but deepness of structures cannot be acquired and restricted with 2D imaging. In 3D diagnostic imaging, a series of anatomical records is gathered using certain technical equipment, processed by a computer and later presented on a 2D monitor to present the illusion of deepness.

OMF surgery is unique in requiring a dual qualification in medicine (Dental anesthesiology) and dentistry, and is often seen as the bridge between medicine and dentistry, treating conditions that require expertise from both backgrounds such as head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, Pediatric craniofacial and cleft surgery, Antibiotic prophylaxis and early dental implant failure,  cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and infections and also diagnosis and management of dento-facial deformities.Oral and maxillofacial surgery includes diagnosis, surgery and treatment of defects, injuries and diseases mainly in the oral hard and soft tissues, head, neck, face and maxillofacial region i.e. jaws and face. Functions of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon may include dental replacements, jaw, oral and facial tumor diagnosis and removal, jaw and facial bone alignment, jaw reconstruction, etc. Oral and maxillofacial surgery ranges from minor to complex major. Propelled systems in dentistry empowers specialist to give a superior treatment to the patient. Oral and Maxillofacial specialists work with different authorities like orthodontists, ear nose and throat specialists, plastic specialists to enhance the treatment conditions.

The study and practice of endodontics includes the biology of the normal pulp, crown, root and peri-radicular tissues and the etiology, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries that affect these tissues. Endodontics is the branch of dentistry used to treat, analyze, and keep the dental mash which is the delicate internal tissue of the teeth. Endodontics treatment can likewise be called as root trench treatment. Root canal therapy is one of the common procedures followed in endodontic treatments. Also includes treatment of cracked teeth and dental trauma. Endodontic treatment is done to save the teeth from diseased dental pulp. Regenerative endodontics uses the concept of tissue engineering to restore the root canals to a healthy state. Good dental or oral care is important to sustaining healthy teeth, gums and tongue. Oral problems comprising bad breath, dry mouth, canker or cold sores, TMD, tooth decay, or thrush are all treatable with proper diagnosis and care.

Orthodontics is a branch of “dentistry” that specializes in treating patients with improper positioning of teeth when the mouth is closed (malocclusion), which results in an improper bite. Orthodontics also includes treating and controlling various aspects of facial growth (dentofacial orthopedics) and the shape and development of the jaw. An orthodontics specialist is called an orthodontist.

An orthodontist uses a range of medical dental devices, including headgears, plates, braces, Implants, Cleft Lip and Palate etc and use the recent advances in orthodontics like invisalign techniques. In the recent advancements of orthodontics, introduction of cone beam CT scanning has proved to be revolutionizing in treatment planning and evaluation. Recently, passive self-ligating brackets are used which have the ability to reduce crowding and eliminating the need for extraction. Orientation problems could also have arisen through accidents , prolonged thumb sucking or pacifier sucking in grown-up children, missing teeth, premature or late loss of baby teeth, tumors in the mouth, dental disease or inadequately fitted fillings, crowns or braces.

Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood. Pediatric dentists provide comprehensive oral health care that includes the Infant oral health exams, Pediatric Endodontics, Dental caries and Pediatric oral health research.

Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth - they make smiles look beautiful and function the way they should. Maxillo-facial prosthetics, Implant-based prostheses, Management of temporo-mandibular disorders, Dentures, Crowns, bridges, and full or partial dentures are just some of the procedures that can help you regain your smile and improve your appearance and self-confidence. Another option is dental implants, a more permanent solution that has improved greatly over the last ten years, thanks to the pioneering techniques of prosthodontists

Dentistry has seen enormous upgrades regarding headway from the customary strategies to the advanced world that has enlarged the extent of dental medicines and methodology. Dental specialists can now offer patients propelled decisions like Laser DentistryEsthetic DentistryDigital Dentistry and Implant DentistryAdvanced Dentistry devices and methods utilized at present incorporate the Laser applications, Dental inserts and occlusal investigation, Forensic DentistryDental Radiography/InformaticsRobotic and Computerized Dentistry and Imaging procedures for the craniofacial hard and delicate tissues.

Dentists inject anesthetics to block sensory transmission by the alveolar nerves. The superior alveolar nerves are not usually anesthetized directly because they are difficult to approach with a needle. For this reason, the maxillary teeth are usually anesthetized locally by inserting the needle beneath the oral mucosa surrounding the teeth. The inferior alveolar nerve is probably anesthetized more often than any other nerve in the body.

Dental sleep medicine is an area of dental practice that focuses on the use of oral appliance therapy to treat sleep-disordered breathing, including snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Approximately 25 million adults have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which can cause them to stop breathing hundreds of times a night for anywhere from a few seconds to more than a minute. Sleep apnea is a chronic condition that occurs when your muscles relax during sleep, allowing soft tissue to collapse and block the airway. As a result, repeated breathing pauses occur, which often reduce your oxygen levels. These breathing pauses are followed by brief awakenings that disturb your sleep.
